Marketplace guide

How to verify an Alibaba supplier beyond the profile badge.

Alibaba information is a useful lead, but the transaction can involve a different exporter, factory, invoice issuer, or bank beneficiary. Verify each connection rather than relying on one marketplace label.

1. Capture the supplier profile before the deal changes

Save the profile URL, displayed company name, business type, location, contact details, product claims, and any assessment documents. Ask the seller for its current Chinese business licence.

2. Match the profile to the Chinese legal entity

Search the licence name and USCC. Compare the province, establishment date, address, legal representative, and registered activities with the marketplace profile. An English storefront name may not resemble the legal name.

3. Verify manufacturer and exporter claims separately

A supplier may be legitimate but operate as a trading company. Ask which entity owns or operates the factory, which entity signs the contract, and which entity exports. Look for evidence that supports each relationship.

4. Stop on unexplained payment mismatches

Compare the quotation, contract party, invoice issuer, Alibaba profile entity, and bank beneficiary. Do not send money to a personal or unrelated account until the relationship and authorization are independently confirmed.

FAQ

Common questions

Does an Alibaba badge guarantee that a supplier is safe?

No. Marketplace badges and assessments can provide useful evidence, but they do not guarantee product quality, delivery, payment authorization, or freedom from impersonation.

Why is the bank beneficiary different from the Alibaba company?

There can be legitimate reasons, such as an export affiliate, but the relationship and payment authority should be documented and independently verified before payment.

Is a trading company automatically a bad supplier?

No. A trading company can be capable and reliable. The important issue is whether its role, product access, quality controls, contract, and payment path are accurately represented.
